GETTING STARTED WITH SENIORSWORK

WHAT WE ARE

SeniorsWork.net is a huge guided job resource directory offering substantial employment resources for conducting your search from where you live and emanating outward from there. Without organization, your search could quickly turn into days to weeks and into months as you randomly look for the right places to apply. As a senior worker, your competition will be tough. But, with the right resources available at your fingertips, you just may be back to work sooner than you think.

WHAT WE ARE NOT

SeniorsWork.net is NOT a resume bank nor a job emailer. We don't store resumes and we don't email job leads. We provide a huge library of resources that you need to conduct a proactive, targeted search. It is a mistake to send a resume and just passively wait until a job finds you. You must take an active role in finding what you are searching for. If you just recently lost your job and can afford the time, take a week off to collect your thoughts. You won't get another vacation for at least another year. Then, when you come back here, have a clear mind and be totally focused and prepared to make a full-time job out of finding your next job!

USE THESE STEPS TO CONDUCT YOUR ORGANIZED JOB SEARCH TO MAXIMIZE YOUR RESULTS:

STEP #1: PREPARE YOUR RESUME!! - Use the resources found on the Resume page to help you create or modify your resume. Remember, the purpose of a resume isn't to get you a job outright. It is for you to present to a prospective employer information demonstrating what you can "bring to the table" for his/her company and to encourage an interview where you can then go into more detail. on why you are the best fit for the job. Very few people have been hired soley based on a resume without first being interviewed. So, make sure your resume is up-to-date and ready before you begin your search.

STEP #2: Select your STATE - Select your state from the map on the main page. Once you click your state, you will be taken to a list of cities in your state. Click your city. From there, you will see area newspapers, each with a link to take your to their classifieds. Also present are cities near you with links to their HR departments (where available) where you can view and apply for city jobs. Below that you will see your county job links which, where available, will tak you to the HR departments for your county. The jobs listed at these locations change regularly, so make a point of coming back often.

  • State workforce commissions
  • U.S. government departments and agencies
  • Employment sites listed by job specialty
  • National mega job boards
  • If you have been thinking about starting your own business, there is a link to both state and federal resources full of info from how to write your business plan to how to get financing.
  • If you feel the need for continuing education or certification in your existing field or need qualifications for a new one, here you will find dozens of continuing education colleges and universities in your area.

*Chambers of Commerce are listed because companies usually send corporate officers to represent them to their Chamber. Depending on the chamber, those officers often have phone numbers and/or emails listed. The BBB now often lists the names and contact info for corporate officers as well. This information can be very valuable for getting your resume into the right hands quickly without having to endure a company's HR computer maze. These two valuable resources are seldom thought of by job seekers during their search.

We're here to help, so let's GET STARTED!
